Interview with Omid E. Dayan of The Accident Guys

Today, Lawyer Herald sits down with Omid E. Dayan, one of the Founding Partners for The Accident Guys in California. He and his partner have expanded to open up office locations in more than a dozen California Cities and even had the time to create The Victim's Fund, a nonprofit organization to help accident victims.

Lawyer Herald: What inspired you to become a lawyer?

Omid E. Dayan: I always had a passion to be the voice for those who were getting the shorter end of the stick. I enjoy analyzing any situation and using my instincts to provide advice. Also, I love wearing a suit and tie to work.

Lawyer Herald: How did you meet your partner?

Omid E. Dayan: Although Eliot and I both attended UCLA, we first met studying for the LSAT, which is the law school admissions test. Eliot moved out of state for law school, and I stayed local. Throughout the years we kept in touch. After Eliot moved to Los Angeles, we had dinner a few times and quickly realized we shared the same passion to provide great service and unparalleled results to our clients.

Lawyer Herald: What is your favorite business book?

Omid E. Dayan: Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh. The book is all about what The Accident Guys are. Client service and passion for what we do.

Lawyer Herald: How do you give back to the community you live in?

Omid E. Dayan: Eliot and I often donate to various charities. In fact, in 2020 we started The Accident Guys Victims Fund. A non-profit created with the sole purpose of donating to victims who have been catastrophically injured in a car accident or for families who have lost a loved one in a car accident and financial assistance with the funeral costs. We are very fortunate to be able to give back to our community.

The Accident Guys also sent hand sanitizers and thousands of masks to for free anyone in California during the start of the pandemic and continue to send masks out weekly. Additionally, we had a Covid-19 fund to help Californians that lost their jobs because of the stay-at-home orders.

Lawyer Herald: What is one set advice you would give to a younger you?

Omid E. Dayan: Be patient and grow from your mistakes. Do not compare yourself to others. Life is not a sprint to the finish line. Everyone evolves at a different pace. Don't count your eggs before they hatch.

Lawyer Herald: What are the qualities you look for when hiring for The Accident Guys?

Omid E. Dayan: Many firms look for experience. We, however, look for passion, ambition, and potential. We always look for team members who share the same vision as we do, putting the client first by going the extra mile. You can teach the rules of the game, but you can't teach how to play the game.

Lawyer Herald: If you hadn't become a lawyer what profession would you be in instead?

Omid E. Dayan: A chef. I really enjoy cooking, specifically dinner when I am hosting. I have a few shelves of spices in my cabinet. It's very therapeutic when you have the oven and stove on, prepping your meal while having a glass of wine.

Lawyer Herald: Where do you see The Accident Guys in five years from now?

Omid E. Dayan: A household name. We have been very fortunate to grow organically and rapidly over the past 5 years. Mainly because a lot of our cases are referred by previous clients or are repeat clients. Eliot and I never wanted to be the largest personal injury firm where we do not know every team member. We want to be big enough to make a splash but small enough where we can still give every client personal attention and personally review every case.

Lawyer Herald: How do you unwind after a long day at work?

Omid E. Dayan: Clients reach out to us at all hours of the day, weekday or weekend and we make ourselves available to the best of our ability. Other than that, either going to the gym, watching a Lakers' game or cooking dinner. I am not a believer of bringing work home. I prefer to stay at the office as long as I need to finish my work but once I leave I need to refresh for the following day. The only work I try to do outside of the office is answering new client intake calls.
