During the Barrack Obama administration, Merrick B. Garland was nominated to fill the Supreme Court vacancy due to the death of Antonin Scalia. But it was ignored after the Donald Trump's victory and Republican Neil Gorsuch was nominated instead which hearing is set in March. Garland's nomination was denied and he already accepted it.
When then outgoing President Barrack Obama announced the nomination of Merrick B. Garland to replace Scalia, the chief judge of United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since 2013 cried. How Garland ever imagine that today he is not already the nominee.
The New York Times called Judge Garland as the thwarted nominee and high-profile casualty of Washington's political dysfunction. Liberals are still angry but Garland seems like he has already accepted what he had hoped out for eight months and drifted away.
The former clerk of Garland said that she found it very hard to put behind her what happened to Garland in the past year, "He did not react with anger or self-pity, and that reinforced for me the character and decency of Judge Garland. In many ways, it made me feel worse," Danielle Gray said.
The same thing had happened to Robert H. Bork who failed Supreme Court thirty years ago but it is said that Garland's is worst since he waited and ignored and finally denied. New York Times said also that the election played a big role in that nomination. If Hillary Clinton won, he might be on the way to the court by now.
Today Garland proceeded as if it was a normal situation and he was a normal nominee. Politico reported that he is doing again his usual job routines. Josh Pollack, Mr. Obama's special assistant for legislative affairs said that Judge Garland prepared for each meeting the same way, he made sure he was fully aware of all the issues, their background and what mattered to them.
