Melania Trump Graces Cover of Vanity Fair Mexico Amid Border Wall Crisis

By

As President Donald Trump continues to fulfill his promise in building the Mexican border wall and keeping immigrants and refugees away from the U.S., his wife Melania Trump took the spotlight after gracing the Vanity Fair Mexico's February issue cover. The magazine referred to the First Lady as the "new Jackie Kennedy."

In a photo shot by Douglas Friedman, readers can see Melania on the Vanity Fair issue as she wears a sleeveless white dress and holds a fork with a bowl of glimmering gems and diamonds set in front of her on the table. Originally, Melania's photo on the Vanity Fair issue had been shot for a story in April 2016 as featured in GQ Magazine. Both GQ and Vanity Fair are owned by Conde Nast. Even the former model's cover story in Vanity Fair Mexico was also extracted from the GQ interview.

The release of the Vanity Fair Mexico issue featuring Melania comes only a day after her husband signed the executive orders for the border wall construction to begin. While using government funds that he assured will be "reimbursed" soon by Mexico, the president also promised to strengthen the U.S. Border Patrol. Consequently, such proposals have had adverse outcomes on Mexico as President Enrique Peña Nieto canceled his meeting with Donald through which they will supposedly discuss immigration and trade.

The Mexican president also called out to the rest of the country, stating that "Mexico does not believe in walls," and assuring the protection of Mexicans in the U.S. "Where there is a Mexican migrant at risk that requires our support, your country should be there," he said, as translated by NBC News. "Our communities are not alone. The Mexican government will provide them with the legal advice, which guarantees the protection they require. The 50 Mexican consulates in the United States will become authentic advocates for the rights of migrants."
