There are a lot of things you can offer your employees to make life a little easier and more comfortable for them. Some common perks that are frequently offered include:

  • Health Insurance

  • Dental Insurance

  • Vision Insurance

  • Life Insurance

  • Retirement Plans

  • Paid Vacation

  • Paid Sick Time

However, don't make the mistake of thinking you've done enough if you offer these benefits to your employees. There are a lot more perks you can provide that your employees won't expect, but they sure will appreciate!

Access to an Attorney

There are many different times in our lives when we might require help from an attorney. From estate planning to divorce, it can be scary and difficult to find the right attorney to take on your case. It can be especially scary if you're charged with a crime. According to The Rodriguez Law Group, it isn't uncommon to be, "intimidated by an aggressive prosecutor trying to scare you into accepting a plea deal."

Help your employees by providing them with access to an attorney. That could mean partnering with local law firms to offer limited services for free, or it could simply mean paying employees during work hours to have a virtual consultation.

Free Lunch

Free lunch isn't all that uncommon in offices. Most employees can expect to enjoy a free lunch every now and then, but if you've got the budget and the resources, consider offering lunch to your employees for free every day of the week.

This option is best for offices and workplaces that have a cafeteria on-site, as catering lunch every day can get too expensive, and reimbursing employees for lunch every day can get complicated. However, if you have a cafeteria that offers free food for lunch, your employees will appreciate the fact that they never have to worry about packing a lunch or using their precious lunch time to drive to the local drive-thru.

Quiet Spaces to Take a Nap

Days spent in the office can get long. It's normal to hit a slump after being at work for a few hours, especially if your days regularly last over eight hours before you can return home.

Humans aren't machines. You shouldn't treat your employees that way. We all need rest, and if we get it, we can actually be much more productive than if we plowed through our day when we feel exhausted or drowsy.

Encourage your employees to give their all at work by allowing them to take a nap! There are many companies that provide quiet, comfortable spaces in the office where employees are allowed to take a few minutes of rest. Offer this to your employees and you may actually see a boost in productivity.

Extended Maternity and Paternity Leave

America doesn't have a law on paid leave for new parents. The good news is that many companies offer anywhere between four and 12 weeks of paid time off for new moms anyway.

However, those few short weeks to months just aren't enough. Why not do more for your employees by extending their maternity leave? If you have the ability, you can bet new moms will appreciate having as much as a year off to spend with their new baby.

Don't forget about new dads too! Most policies don't include dads, but there are many benefits of paternity leave. Dads deserve to be there for their partners and their children, so give them the chance with time off of their own.

Childcare Assistance

Not only is it nice to offer extended maternity and paternity leave, parents who work in the office are sure to appreciate childcare assistance too. After all, daycare can be wildly expensive. It isn't uncommon for childcare to cost over a thousand dollars a month just for one kid!

Consider subsidizing child care benefits to take the burden off of parents and encourage them to stay on the job instead of staying home to save money.

If you have the ability, you can also consider offering on-site childcare. Not only does it enable you to offer free daycare to employees without worrying about all the subsidies, but it's also more convenient. Employees will save a lot of time in the morning if their kid doesn't have to be dropped off somewhere else!

By all means, offer health insurance, retirement, and other common perks, but if you really want to attract and keep talented employees, consider these perks too!
