There are roughly 6 million car accidents in the US every year. That's about 1 accident for every 50 people. You may be tempted to believe that cities with higher populations have more accidents, but this isn't necessarily true.

Statistically, you're more likely to crash in a rural area than a city. That being said, some areas appear to be safer than others, and population doesn't play into it much.

Where are these unsafe areas? Where can you find the worst drivers in America? We'll talk more about that in the paragraphs below.

1. Baltimore, Maryland

Multiple studies have found Baltimore, Maryland to be one of the worst, if not the worst, city for driving in. The average driver in Baltimore is likely to have an accident every four years.

The good news is that the overall amount of fatalities caused by car accidents in Baltimore has decreased from previous years. This decrease is quite substantial, with the number of fatalities decreasing by 8%.

2. Los Angeles, California

LA ranks on several lists as having some of the worst drivers in America, and they're not alone. California is somewhat notorious for bad drivers and ranks low on road safety.

On Allstate's 2019 Best Drivers Report, 8 of the twenty most dangerous cities in the country were in California. Los Angeles itself placed 195 out of 200 in the report.

3. Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Baton Rouge placed 188 out of 200 this year. Other cities tend to similarly rank it as one of the 10th-13th worst cities in America to drive in. East Baton Rouge has more than 50 car wrecks per day on average.

One of the biggest reasons for the danger of Baton Rouge's roads has to do with the economy. Road upkeep and repair is expensive, and the city isn't getting as much money for this as it needs. As a result, the roads are slowly getting worse.

4. Hialeah, Florida

According to car accident statistics, Florida cities tend to hover around the middle of the safest cities in the US list. However, a few Florida cities have drastically fallen this year, descending over 20 places in some cases.

Among these cities are Miramar, which fell 17 places from 89th to 107th. Orlando fell from 72 to 93, a total of 21 places. Jacksonville fell 19 places, from 50th to 59th.

Some falling is to be expected, and there are cities in Florida which improved, but overall Florida has experienced some huge drops in driver safety. Only time will tell if the state recovers.

Where Are the Worst Drivers in America?

It's hard to say who the worst drivers in America are. There are cities frequently placed on the lists of most dangerous, but they may rise or fall from year to year.

There's also the question of conditions. Maybe so many accidents occur because the roads are not well-maintained. For all these reasons, we can't really draw on the conclusion on who the worst drivers in America are.

We have given examples of some of the most dangerous cities to drive in, but we can't say why they're so dangerous. If you want to know more about dangerous cities and drivers in the US, feel free to do more research on your own.
