Caitlyn Jenner, an active supporter of Donald Trump during the election, has openly criticized the president for repealing the protection of the transgender community’s rights. By reinforcing the bathroom bills against the LGBT community, former president Barack Obama’s order to protect these individuals is being taken away.
"I have a message for President Trump, from, well, one Republican to another: This is a disaster," Jenner said in a Twitter video. "And you can still fix it. You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me."
Aside from attending Trump’s presidential inauguration in January, Jenner publicly endorsed the business mogul after becoming the GOP nominee. As stated in a CNN report, the reality TV star told STAT that Trump is seemingly more persistent in supporting LGBTQ rights compared to Hillary Clinton. "He seems very much behind the LGBT community because of what happened in North Carolina with the bathroom issue," Jenner said.
In an interview with NBC last year, Trump said Jenner can freely choose which bathroom she preferred to use when she paid a visit to the Trump Tower. He also opened up about the controversial North Carolina bill that requires people to choose bathrooms based on the gender indicated on their birth certificates, saying that it had plenty of problems.
In her Twitter video, Jenner further spoke to the LGBT community, particularly the “trans kids of America” as she offered words of encouragement. “Very soon we will win full freedom nationwide, and it's going to be with bipartisan support,” the retired Olympian said.
Trump’s administration previously said that it will not be lifting the anti-bullying measures for the protection of transgender students in school. However, the increasing number of bathroom bills along with religious freedom bills that support discrimination against the LGBT community has given rise to fears over the welfare of these individuals. Measures such as the SB 651 supports private practitioners, particularly those who stand by their religious beliefs, to deny their services to patients from the LGBT community.
