Uber has filed a patent to connect its ride-sharing service with Facebook data. With the connectivity, its users will be able to to see passengers with the same destination and share a ride together.

The patent was filed on July 28, 2016, with application number 15/221,993. The US Patent and Trade Mark Office published the formation on Thursday, Feb. 2.

The patent document described connectivity between Uber Carpool service with Facebook data which enable users to determine their carpool service preference. The system then transmits users' preferred carpool to drivers in the vicinity to inform the user's preference. Furthermore, the system will access Facebook data which will connect users and drivers and transmit the notification to users regarding the driver.

With the system, both users and drivers can get connected via Facebook. It also helps users to get travel buddy, another user who plan to go to the same destination from surrounding area. Moreover, access to Facebook data also enables users to connect their mutual friends or friends of friends to travel together as reported by Business Insider.

Facebook and Uber have been working together as a partner since December 2015, when the social media giant allows Uber users to book a ride using Facebook Messengers. Since then, Facebook looked forward to increasing more service similar to Uber.

Uber have taken one step ahead to further utilize its partnership with Facebook in their partnership. With the data connectivity with Facebook, Uber users can search a colleague at work, old school mate, people who grew up in the same neighborhood, or same hobbies as their travel buddy.

Both Uber and Facebook will have the same benefit with this data connectivity. Uber will benefit with the social media data to make its ride-sharing service become more friendly, as both drivers and users will be able to know each other through social media. As for Facebook, this data connectivity will open further opportunity to offer similar service.
