‘iPhone 8’ Latest News & Updates: Apple Ditching Away Touch ID For Face Recognition Technology

By

For its 2017 iPhone, Apple is replacing an old feature with a new technology. Rumor has it that the iPhone 8 would be using face recognition instead of Touch ID. This was based on the latest report of Ming Chin Kuo, the KGI Securities analyst with one of the best track records as far as predicting future hardware plans.

In a report that was published in Slash Gear, Apple will be replacing the iPhone's Touch ID fingerprint reader with a new biometric identification technology eliminating the need for bezels in the design. According to the rumor, the new technology will also be paired with a facial recognition sensor thus paving the way for the company's use of facial recognition rather than Touch ID.

Aside from facial recognition, the new report which also appeared in Mac World revealed that the latest iPhone, to be released later in the year, will also feature an embedded Home button, a 5.8-inch "fixed flex" edge-to-edge display, wireless charging, and a glass body.

In order to adapt edge-to-edge design, Apple will be replacing its current FCPB sensor with a film sensor for better sensitivity and user experience. The new iPhone will need to have a flexible OLED panel. With a film sensor, a metal structure will provide solid support for the phone.

The new report, according to the website of First Post, the technical challenges that Apple will encounter with facial recognition includes: 1) algorithms; 2) hardware design; and 3) build out of a database for verification and authentication, which could take time.

Apple is expected to unveil 3 new iPhones this year. To be known as Ferrari, the 10th anniversary iPhone will come with a 5.8-inch display and will be a radical redesign using exotic technologies. It will also come with an OLED display that runs from edge to edge. It is believed that this new iPhone will serve as the launching pad for Apple's augmented reality applications.
